About the WAAW Foundation 2020/2021 Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the WAAW foundation scholarship, you must have satisfied all the eligibility requirements for the WAAW foundation scholarship. These eligibility requirements simply imply that the scholarship is not generalized but restricted to the candidates who have met the eligibility requirements as stated by the scholarship body. The following are the list of the eligibility requirements for the WAAW foundation scholarship 2020/201;

  1. Female students of African origin who are living and studying in Africa
  2. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate BSc degree program
  3. Applicants must be studying STEM-related courses in a university or college in Africa
  4. Applicants must demonstrate financial need
  5. Applicants must have an excellent academic record
  6. Applicants must demonstrate proven leadership, volunteering, and community service
  7. Applicants must be below the age of 32 years
  8. Only students in their first and second year are eligible to apply. And also students in their third year if studying the first-year course

Please note that the foundation do not fund graduate masters MBA or Ph.D. programme, second or subsequent degree’s, students older than 32 years, on STEM-focused course or diploma degrees

WAAW Foundation awards an annual scholarship to students who demonstrate need and prove their status as full-time students in a STEM-related course in an African university. The recipient will be required to state a STEM outreach chapter at their university.

How To Apply

To apply for the WAAW foundation scholarship 2020/2021 all applicants are to apply by clicking on this link. Along with your application, you are to submit the below documents;

  1. The application form which is filled out completely
  2. Personal and contact information
  3. Educational background and family information
  4. Statement of need should describe why scholarship funds are needed and what funds will be used for if received
  5. Essays are strong criteria’s in determining candidates who are shortlisted

Responses to essay questions that addresses career goals and how you expect the WAAW scholarship will assist in your education. You are to have your essay responses before you start applying.

  • In 500 words or less, you are to write an essay on your future career goals and how you expect the WAAW foundation scholarship will assist in fulfilling those goals
  • In 300 words or less, please describe what you believe about female education in Africa and its impact on research or advancement in Africa economics
  • In 500 words or less what is your proudest achievement till date
  • Describe in ten or fewer sentences why you need a scholarship and tell us about your needs or personal or family or financial situation and how the funds from the WAAW scholarship will assist your education
  1. Two academic or professional references and you are to note that the recommendation letter and transcript are not required at the time of applications. Only after a candidate has been shortlisted. However, you must provide the names of 2 references in your application

Only shortlisted candidates will be required to send the following additional documents  in order to complete the application process

  1. 2 references; one must be written by a professor from your institution of study and the other from an academic supporting advisor or mentor to be emailed to the foundation
  2. A copy of a current signed and sealed transcript from your university to be emailed to transcript@waawfoundation.org
  3. A copy of the students school identity card must also be scanned and emailed.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the WAAW foundation scholarship 2020/2021 is on the 2nd of November 2020.
