Five credits are needed in WAEC (West African Examination Council) or in NECO (National Examination Council) to apply for any of these schools. Mathematics and English Language must be among the subjects in WAEC or NECO. The full meaning of NBTE is National Board for Technical Education ad it was established by the federal government of Nigeria in 1977. The function of the board is to established and supervised technical institutions in the country. The headquarter of NBTE is located in Kaduna State and the institutions under the supervision of NBTE include Monotechnics, Vocational Enterprise Institutions, College of Agriculture and a lot more.

One of the objectives of the body is to streamline and strengthen the machinery for educational development in the country. The mission of NBTE is to promote the production of skilled technical and professional manpower for the development and sustenance of the National Economy.

The federal military government under the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida created Jigawa State on the 27th of August 1991.
