UNN Undergraduate Admission Requirements 2024/2025

  • Candidates must meet the Departmental minimum entry requirement of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics at GCE O’ Level/SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalents at not more than two sittings.
  • Candidates must register for the next JAMB (Applications starts typically around November/December). All candidates must upload their O/Level Results to the JAMB Portal to qualify to be considered for admission.

UNN Full-Time Undergraduate Admission Requirements 2024/2025

To gain admission into the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) full-time undergraduate degree Program, Candidates must fulfil the following requirements;

  • All Candidates must meet the Departmental minimum entry requirement of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics at GCE O’ Level/SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalents at not more than two sittings.
  • All Candidates must pass the year’s conducted UTME with a score of at least 180( This has been the school cut-off for the past three years).

JAMB Admission Requirements

Admission is open to candidates who wrote the recently conducted Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

  • Candidates are to apply to JAMB for online registration, including biometric capturing to qualify candidates to sit for UTME (Applications starts typically around November/December).
  • All participant are required to upload their O-level result to the JAMB portal.
  • Candidates must pass the year’s conducted UTME with a score of at least 180( This has been the school cut-off for the past three years).
  • UNN insists that only those with an average UTME and Post UTME of 200 and above would be considered for admission.
  • Lastly, Applicants need five credit passes in relevant subjects, including English and Maths at O Level/SSCE, NECO, WAEC, GCE or NABTEB.

Direct-Entry Admission Requirements

The University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) accepts the following for Direct Entry Admission into the 200 Level;

  • All Applicants must have five credit passes in relevant subjects, including English and Maths at O Level/SSCE, NECO, WAEC, GCE or NABTEB.
  • All candidates must buy and pay a required fee for the direct entry form to apply.
  • Candidates must be registered with JAMB.
  • Also, candidates should possess a pass in their former institute (e.g. Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Universities, etc) to send their transcripts to the Registrar, UNN.

HND to Degree Top-Up Admission Requirements

For now, the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) does not offer the degree top-up.

Inter-University Transfer Degree Admission Requirements

Candidates from other universities of equivalent recognition within and outside Nigeria can apply for inter-university transfer subject to conditions specified in the application form, which is accessible to such candidates from the University Portal on request.

  • Candidates should apply online in the UNN Portal and complete the required forms after carefully studying the requirements and paying the application/processing fee.
  • Transfer students shall make a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 5.00-point scale to qualify for consideration. 
  • They should have spent at most two (2) academic sessions in their former university. 
  • A transfer student must possess a JAMB score of less than the minimum score of UNN students admitted into his department in his admission year. 
  • A transfer student must be a current student of the university from which he seeks transfer.

UNN Part-Time Degree Admission Requirements 2024/2025

These are the general minimum requirements to gain admission into the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) for a part-time undergraduate degree;

  • All participants must be above the age of 16.
  • Minimum of 5 credits in WAEC/GCE, NECO, or NABTEB certificate. More importantly, results must include English Language and Mathematics.
  • All participants must buy and apply for the part-time form at a non-refundable required fee.

UNN Postgraduate Admission Eligibility 2024/2025

  • All applicants must meet the Departmental minimum entry requirement of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics at GCE O’ Level/SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalents.
  • Participants must have graduated from a recognised University.

UNN Full-Time Postgraduate Admission Requirements 2024/2025

These are the general minimum requirements to gain admission into the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) for any postgraduate program;

  • Firstly, Candidates must have obtained five credits at up to two sittings in WASC, GCE, NECO or NABTEB, including the English Language and Mathematics.
  • Candidates shall also possess the minimum entry requirements for admission into the first degree and postgraduate programmes in their areas of interest for doctoral studies.
  • Only students with the NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate can be cleared into the different courses.

Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate

Candidates seeking admission to the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Postgraduate Diploma or certificate must meet the following requirements;

  • Graduates of the University of Nigeria or other recognised Universities.
  • Holders of credit (Upper credit) level passes at HND or its equivalent in relevant areas (for programmes in the Faculties of Agriculture; Business Administration; in the Departments of Political Science; Public Administration & Local Government; and Vocational Teacher Education.); and for Postgraduate Diploma in Electoral Administration Programme and Public Administration & Local Government; and Department of Vocational Teacher Education).
  • Qualifications such as AIB, ACCA., ACMA., ICAN., BEEC., CPA, etc. may also be considered for admission.
  • Candidates with professional qualifications, including HND, must have obtained five credits in WASC or GCE O/L, including English and Mathematics, for admission to degree courses in Business Administration.
  • Candidates with qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
  • Candidates should possess the minimum entry requirements for admission into the first-degree programmes in their areas of interest for postgraduate studies. For the PGD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Architecture, only candidates with University degrees in relevant areas need to apply.

Additionally, For the Postgraduate Diploma in Geoinformatics and Surveying in particular, candidates with third class 12 honours degrees in Geography, Geology and other Physical Sciences, as well as HND Upper Credit level passes in related fields, are also eligible.

Master’s Degree Programme

The following shall qualify for Master’s Degree admission: Graduates of the University of Nigeria or other recognised Universities who have obtained the degree of Bachelor in the relevant disciplines with at least a good second class honours.

  • Candidates with relevant Postgraduate Diplomas from the University of Nigeria with at least credit level passes.
  • Candidates whose first degrees are unclassified but have scores of 50% or above.
  • For the M.Ed degree, candidates with at least a good second class single honours degree in teaching subjects plus a merit level pass at Postgraduate Diploma. 

Those with a third class honours degree in Education or a single honours degree in teaching subjects with at least five years of postgraduate teaching experience, plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education passed at Merit level or above.

  • For MPA, candidates should, in addition to (1) and (2) above, be serving 
  • Holders of professional Fellowship qualifications such as FIMLT, FNILT, NIPR, or their equivalents obtained through examination. 
  • Also, Candidates with qualifications other than those listed above are acceptable to the Senate of the University.

Doctoral Degree (PhD) Programme

For eligibility for the Doctorate at the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), candidates must;

  • Candidates of the University of Nigeria or other recognised Universities who have obtained the Master’s degree appropriate for the proposed areas of study with a minimum of 3.50 grade point average on a 5-point scale or average provided that satisfactory research work formed part of the Master’s degree programme.
  • Demonstrated evidence of completed academic research will be an advantage.
  • A candidate with first-class or second-class honours (Upper division) from a recognised University may be admitted into a PhD programme.

UNN Part-Time Postgraduate Admission Eligibility 2024/2025

For eligibility for the Part-Time postgraduate degree, candidates must at least meet these requirements;

  • All applicants must meet the Departmental minimum entry requirement of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects. The subject includes English Language and Mathematics at GCE O’ Level/SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalents.
  • Candidates must buy and apply for the UNN part-time postgraduate form.
  • Candidate must be a graduate of a Nigerian University or any recognised university, with at least a third-class honours degree.
  • HND holders with a minimum of lower credits from recognised institutions.
