About the UNIPORT School of Public Health 2021/2022 Graduate Admission Form

The University of Port Harcourt School of Public Health is the pioneer School of Public Health in Nigeria. Lecturers in the School have diverse academic and field experiences in the public and private sectors, and are drawn from within and outside the University of Port Harcourt.

Programmes Available

The School invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following graduate programmes for the 2021/2022 academic session.

– Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in:

  • Epidemiology
  • Health Systems Management
  • Population/Reproductive Health

– Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)

– Executive Master of Public Health (MPH)

– Master of Science (MSc) programme in:

  • Community Health
  • Environmental Health
  • Occupational Medicine
  • Epidemiology
  • Health Systems Management
  • Population/Reproductive Health
  • Health Promotion and Communication
  • Public Health Nutrition
  • Health Information Management

– Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD) programme in:

  • Public Health
  • Community Health
  • Health Information Management

Admission Requirements:

– Post Graduate Diploma (PGD):

Minimum Duration: Full time (12 months); Part-time (18 months)

Applicants shall be required to have a good University degree, or HND with a minimum of upper Credit or Higher Diploma in Community Health or its equivalent with at least a Credit pass in the professional examination

– Masters Programmes:

Minimum Duration: Full-time (12 months); Part-time (24 months)

Candidates would be required to have a minimum of a first degree in medicine or first degree in fields related to the programme, with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent. Holders of a post-graduate diploma (PGD) in public health with a CGPA of 3.50 are also eligible.

The Occupational Medicine programme is open to only registered medical practitioners, while the programmes in Community Health and Health Information Management are open to only persons registered with the respective professional registration boards – Community Health Practitioners’ Registration Board of Nigeria, and the Health Records Officers’ Registration Board.

– Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme:

Minimum Duration: Full-time (36 months); Part-time (48 months)

Eligible candidates for these competitive programmes must have completed a master’s degree in appropriate majors, with a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale. Candidates with master’s degree in disciplines not sufficiently related to the PhD programme can be considered for admission, but will be required to take some MSc level courses to boost their knowledge in the sub-specialty.

– Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Programme:

Minimum Duration: Full-time (36 months); Part-time (48 months)

Candidates admitted into the DrPH programme must have either masters/doctoral degree in a subject appropriate to the course of study; or Membership (Part 1)/Fellowship in Public Health from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, or its equivalent. Additionally, all DrPH candidates MUST have a minimum of five years post-NYSC experience in a Public Health position.

In addition to the above requirements, candidates for all the programmes must also satisfy the minimum matriculation requirements of the University of Port Harcourt.
