The management of the University of Illorin is using this medium to invite candidates who are suitably qualified to apply for admission into the School of Preliminary Studies Programme for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Candidates who are admitted into the Remedial Programme and who at the end of the program are successful at the school examination and who also obtain a minimum UTME cut-off mark approved by the institution will be considered for admission into degree programmes. The consideration however will be based on performance and quota for each performance.

UNIILORIN Remedial Admission Requirements

For Arts and Arts Education, the management of the institution expects prospective applicants to:

  • Possess five credits passes in the SSCE/GCE organized by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB at not more than two sittings, the major subjects of study should be included in the five subjects. For eventual admission into any programme of the University of Ilorin, it should be noted that candidates must possess credit grades in English Language and Mathematics.
  • From the five subjects passed, two must be from Arts while the other subjects may be from the Social Sciences.

Note: It should be of note to candidates that there is no preliminary programme in B.A. (Hons.) English.

For Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Science and Science Education, Environmental Sciences, Technology Education and Educational Technology, applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • At credit level the following subjects should be credited; English Language, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Physics. Candidates are expected to obtain this result at not more than two sittings in the SSCE/GCE organized by WAECG, NECO, and NABTEB.

UNILORIN Remedial Programme Eligibility, Venue, Duration and Specific Requirements

Eligibility: The group of persons who can apply for the preliminary programme is applicants who are from the Catchment States of the University of Ilorin (i.e. Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Sokoto Nassarawa, Niger, and Zamfara States).

Venue: The programme shall be held at the School of Preliminary Studies, Fufu, Ilorin South Local Government Headquarters, Kwara State.

Duration: The preliminary programme will run for a period of one academic session (two semesters).

Specific Requirements:  A credit grade in Agricultural Science in lieu of credit in Biology will be accepted for the Faculty of Agriculture.

UNILORIN Remedial Programme General Conditions

  • It was approved in the policy thrust of inclusiveness in university education by the Board of the School that candidates who have five(5) O’ level credit passes but have a deficiency in either Mathematics or English Language may apply for the programme. However, it is expected that such candidates must have registered for and obtained a credit pass in the subject to be considered for admission into degree programmes.
  • Prospective candidates of Engineering are expected to have obtained credit grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and sit for English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics at the 2021/2020 JAMB/UTME.
  • Candidates are required to sit for the 2021/2022 JAMB/UTME with relevant subject combination to any programme applied for in either Arts or Sciences. Candidates are also required to obtain the minimum UTME cut-off point by the university.
  • Candidates will be considered for admission into programmes in the university based on performance and quota for each performance.
  • Candidates of the Remedial Programme who passed the School’s end of the programme examinations but did not obtain the minimum 2021/2022 UTME cut-off point approved by the university can bank the Remedial result for use next year. However, the candidate is required to meet the approved UTME minimum cut-off point for the following year.
  • It is mandatory for applicants to note that the preliminary programme is residential.

How to Apply for UNILORIN Pre-Degree Admission Form

To apply for the remedial programme, candidates who have satisfied the necessary requirements are to:

  • Visit the website of the University of Ilorin via this link http://www.unilorin.edu.ng/ and follow the link provided for the 2020/2021 SPS Application.
  • Payment of N15,000 (Fifteen Thousand Naira) only is required as an application fee. Payment is to be made with the use of Interswitch enabled ATM card, the card can be either Master or Verve card.
  • Upon successful payment, candidates are to complete the application form online.
  • Each candidate is required to download a Local Government Confirmation Form upon the completion of the application form. The Local Government Confirmation Form must be endorsed by the Chairman/Secretary of the Local Government Ares.

Candidates who are offered admission are required to come along with the form and SSCE/GCE certificates/result slips during the registration period.
