Suitably qualified candidates are invited by The University of Lagos, African Cluster Centre of Excellence (ACC), a Centre within the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), University of Lagos (UNILAG) to apply for its 2021 Doctoral Scholarships.

About UNILAG African Cluster Centre Doctoral Scholarships

Programme Co-Ordinator: Dr Feyi Ademola-Adeoye, Deputy Director, Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), University of Lagos, and  Principal Investigator, University of Lagos ACC.

The University of Lagos African Cluster Centre (LACC) is sponsored by the German Research Foundation and is also collaborated with the University of Bayreuth and three other African partners in the African Multiple Cluster System and aims to advance the study of African and the African diaspora by means of original cutting-edge researchers that have practical relevance for a social life whilst contributing to theory building.

As part of the Centre’s commitment to supporting postgraduate studies in the relevant Humanities disciplines, for the year 2021, doctoral students are encouraged to apply for a scholarship that is funded by LACC. Suitably qualified candidates are expected to be currently working closely with their supervisors on studies that will result in new insights to LACC’s cross-cutting themes, viz:

  • Knowledge
  • Moralities
  • Mobilities
  • Affiliations
  • Arts and Aesthetics, and
  • Learning

Scholarship Value

The value of the scholarship is One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) and it will subsist for a period of one(1) year. The recipients of the scholarship are required to give assistance to the supervisor with some research work and where necessary, undertake some limited teaching duties.

Requirements

Interested candidates are expected to meet certain requirements in order to eligible for a doctoral scholarship at the University of Lagos. The requirements are:

  • It is compulsory that applicants are enrolled on a doctoral programme at the University of Lagos.
  • The University of Lagos will accord preference to applicants whose work has scaled the pre-APC stage, having reached an advanced stage in their fieldwork and are also about to write up their thesis.

Ph.D. students working within the underlisted areas are the students that The University of Lagos has a particular interest in:

  • African Traditional Religion
  • African Herbal Medicine
  • African History and Politics
  • African Philosophy
  • African Musicology
  • Arts and Aesthetics
  • African Culture and Gender Studies
  • Water, Environment and Climatic Change in Africa, and
  • African Languages and Literature which include English and Francophone literature (special reference will be given to multilingualism, African and African diaspora literature, translation, and early African literary works).

Invitation to apply for the scholarship is also made out to candidates who are working on research projects that explore related themes, especially those whose supervisors are within the cluster system.
