The  (UNIDO) Global Call for Innovative Ideas and Technologies vs. COVID-19 and beyond has been launched with the aim of coping with the direct and indirect impact of the pandemic, COVID-19 in developing countries and economies in transition, and their respective needs in the transition in the aftermath of the pandemic to post-crisis socioeconomic realities.

Generally, the UNIDO Global Call for Innovative Ideas and Technology vs. COVID-19 and Beyond presents an opportunity at international levels to identify and promote innovative ideas and solutions that contributes to tackling COVID-19 effects in developing countries and make their economies more resilient to a crisis like this pandemic, in alignment with the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

About the UNIDOS Global Call for Innovative Ideas and Technology vs. COVID-19 and Beyond

The UNIDO Global Call for innovative ideas and technology vs. COVID-19 and beyond is an initiative inspired by Investment and Technology Promotion Offices around the world (ITPO) Italy through its network of ITPOs all around the globe and is promoted by UNIDO. This Global call is aimed at looking to create a virtuous cycle of connections between the private, financial, institutional and academic world to fight COVID-19 and begin to make headway towards recovery. Priorities will specifically be given to these four strategic categories;

  • Health Emergencies
  • Food and Agriculture
  • Energy and Environment
  • Resilient infrastructure and industries.

Furthermore, UNIDOS offers benefits to the individuals or organizations with the best innovative ideas and technologies as well as providing the opportunity to the winners to present their own innovative ideas and technologies to potential partners in the UNIDO network and to the beneficiary of the ad hoc promotional and networking support provided by the organization. Applications for the UNIDOS Global call are still open with a deadline star scheduled for 30th of July, 2020.

Benefits of the Programme

Winners of the UNIDOS Global Call for innovative ideas and technology vs. COVID-19 and beyond will be contacted in the days following the deadline date for applications or proposals and invited to take part in the Award ceremony via live streaming scheduled on 14th  July 2020 in compliance with the ongoing measures taken worldwide against large gatherings to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The winners will also be offered the following benefits and services:

  • Opportunity to participate as a keynote speaker and guest of honour at the final Award Ceremony to be virtually organized by UNIDO on 14 July 2020 Mentorship and advisory services concerning the awarded
  • Realization of an ad hoc web page on the winner innovative idea and/or technology within the UNIDO’s institutional website and assistance in defining a promotional strategy
  • Opportunity to make use of an exhibition pass and booth space at EuroScience Open Forum 2020 (ESOF2020) to be held in September 2020 in Trieste, Italy.
  • A showcase of winning proposals at Expo Dubai to be held in 2021

The winners will also be eligible to transparent brokering services to access, through ad hoc promotional activities, to the worldwide UNIDO and ITPOs network in order to guarantee the maximum visibility to the winner proposal and foster the conclusion of international technical, financial and academic partnerships;

Eligibility Criteria to Participate

UNIDOS Global Call for innovative ideas and technology vs. COVID-19 and beyond aims to create innovative connections between several organizational bodies such as academic, financial, private, institutional world. Hence the application or proposals can be submitted by:

  • Micro, small, medium, and large companies
  • Public-Private Partnerships
  • Research centers, technology transfer offices, university spin-offs, incubators and academia;
  • Startups
  • Associations, private foundations, NGOs, business consortia and company networks.

Participation of proposal at any level of development is encouraged by the organizers, from infant stage ideas to scaled-up projects, as well as innovative technologies under testing and collection of evidence. It should be noted that participation in the UNIDO Global Call initiative is free of charge.

How to Apply

Each applicant is eligible to submit a maximum of two applications or proposals. However, a larger submission of the proposal would lead to the exclusion of extra applications or proposals based on the order in which they were received.
