University of Benin (UNIBEN) Holds Virtual Matriculation Ceremony for 2019/2020 Academic Session

The general public and the first-year student of the University of Benin are aware of the fact that the school has not held its matriculation ceremony. As such, the school authority has announced the UNIBEN Virtual Matriculation Ceremony for 2019/2020 Academic Session. The matriculation will he held this way in response to the preventive measures of the COVID 19 virus.

The Virtual Matriculation Ceremony was approved by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor (Mrs.) Lilian Salami. The Matriculation Ceremony is for Students admitted into the University for the 2019/2020 academic session. This information was disclosed by The Varsity’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, in a statement in Benin City on Friday.

Reasons for a Virtual Matriculation

As at the early beginning of the School Session, all academic activities were put on hold. This is because of the COVID 19 pandemic, which happened to the whole world and quickly spread out like wildfire. The first-year students recently admitted into the school could not, therefore, carry out their Matriculation Ceremony which was set out for a scheduled date in the month of March.

Virtual Matriculation

The Matriculation of the first-year students is to be held virtually as already stated. Only a few numbers of persons are to be physically present. The number of people needed to be present is the University’s Principal Officers, a few designated officials, and also student representatives of the Various Colleges, Schools, Institutes and Faculties.

Then, the Provost, Deans, Directors, and other matriculating students and members of the University Community are expected to participate in the matric. Celebration through a link that would be made available by the ICTU/CRPU.

Date of Virtual Matriculation

The Varsity’s Public Relations Officer stated that the event is to be held on Tuesday 15th September 2020.  Dr Benedicta also noted that those who will be physically present at the event are expected to use their face masks. The use of face masks is actually very compulsory.
