About the UN FAO World Food Day Poster Contest 2020

The world is filled with heroes, from farmers to drivers, shop assistants, government representatives or food banks, and so on, who despite the various challenges, that includes the current COVID-19 pandemic, works very hare just to make sure that food makes it way from the farm to our homes. This contest is going to be celebrating their efforts this world food day. Young minds stand a chance to be inspired by the FAO’s World Food day activity book that talks mainly about the important role the food heroes play in the food system and how everyone can come together with the aim of taking action in other to support their food heroes so they can provide the healthy diets we need, while we are protecting our planet.

Prizes

The prizes for the UN FAO World Food Day Poster Contest 2020 include:

  • 15 posters required from each category (60 posters) for shortlisting by the screening committee in December 2020. Candidates shortlisted would be offered a certificate for their achievement.
  • Three poster designs would be selected as finalists by a jury in each of the categories
  • The top three best designs in all the categories would be announced on the day of the world food day website.
  • The winners would be promoted on FAO social media and by offices all around the world.
  • The winners would also be offered a certificate of recognition and a surprise gift bag.
  • If it comes to the point that a selected winner of the prize is not eligible or the general rules copyright and privacy, cannot be traced or refuses to accept the prize, they would have to forfeit the prize and it will be in the sole discretion of FAO to make the decision of awarding the prize to another eligible entry.
  • The winning posters would be published, and only the initial, full family name and country of origin would be published. No other personal information about the contestant would be shared.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the UN FAO World Food Day Poster Contest 2020, all interested applicants are expected to meet the eligibility criteria for the contest. They include:

  • The award is available to children and youth who are between the age of 5 and 19, and who are from any part of the world
  • The age to be stated in the entry form is the age of the candidate during the period of entering the contest. Minors are required to have their parent’s permission or legal guardians to participate in the contest.
  • The competition is separated into the following categories: 5 to 8, 8 to 12, 13 to 15, and 16 to 19.
  • Only one entry should be submitted, person. If a person submits multiple entries, it would result in disqualification.

Requirements

The requirement for the UN FAO World Food Day Poster Contest 2020 is stated below:

  • The poster entries may be drawn, painted or sketched using a pencil, crayon or charcoal, pen, or using oil, acrylic or watercolor paint, and as well as mixed media. Digitally created artworks are also allowed.
  • Poster entries are expected to not include text. If text would be used, it should not be more than 25 or 100 characters.
  • All artwork is expected to be original and must not include photographic images of the contestant or other personal information.
  • All the participants expected to read about the world food day theme in the world day activity book, younger children may desire to learn together with a teacher or parent.
  • All posters can only be submitted using the provided entry form. All the areas in the contest entry form are expected to be completed and after uploading the poster design, you must click the enter button. Younger children might require an adult to make their online submission.
  • The recommended worksheet is an A4 sheet or an 8 and a half inches by 11 inched sheets, to make it easier to scan and upload your poster design. If you have a larger poster, you may be required to take a digital photo of the work and upload it.
  • Only JPEG saved digital files would be accepted, and submissions are expected to be made through the provided online form. Do not send in the physical posters.
