About the UI Postgraduate Admission Form for 2019/2020 Academic Session

The University of Ibadan is now inviting application from all suitably qualified candidates for admission into the postgraduate programmes for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Latest Update

The Board of postgraduate college has now approved the further extension of sales of late application forms for Master degree programmes for the academic session of 2019/2020, another three weeks (from the 4 of January 2021 to 25 January 2021). This is was created to make up for attrition and allow for more candidates, especially those who have finished their NYSC in other participants in the exercise. Note that the Test of Proficiency in English (TPE) would hold starting from on the 26 January 2021.

University of Ibadan General Regulations Governing Admission to Higher Degree Programmes

(a) Candidates that are for the admission to higher degree programmes shall normally be graduates of the University of Ibadan or other Universities/Institutions that the senate recognizes. The Admission would be made available by the Postgraduate School on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committee.

(b) Candidates that are without any previous higher degrees in the relevant discipline would be admitted only either to the Degree of Master or the Professional Degree of Master.

(c) Candidates in possession of a recognized “Research Higher” Degree in the relevant discipline would be admitted to the M.Phil or PhD degree programmes as the appropriate, on the recommended appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committee.

(d) Where, in respect of an otherwise candidates with an eligible higher degree, a firm recommendation for admission to the PhD degree programme would not be made. The Faculty may recommend that a candidate is to be admitted provisionally to the M.Phil/Ph.D. programme pending an assessment report. Such an assessment would be made available by a panel that is set up by the Faculty Postgraduate Committee on the recommendation of the student’s department and would take place nothing later than the end of the registration of the first semester.

UI Postgraduate General Admission Requirements

(a) For all the basic qualification for the admission into all the postgraduate courses and the programmes happens to be a first degree of the University of Ibadan or degree/higher National Diploma of other institutions that is recognized in the relevant discipline. Where qualifications are not in the area of the admission strictly, remedial courses, that would lead to the additional periods of studentship, might be prescribed.

In addition to the individual Departmental requirements, applicants are expected to satisfy the ‘O’ Level first degree matriculation requirements of the University of Ibadan, i.e. five ‘O’Level credit passes at a maximum of one sitting, or 6 ‘O’ level credits at a maximum of two sittings including English Language and subject areas for ALL the disciplines and Mathematics for ALL Science-based disciplines, Educational Management and Economics and at least Mathematics for other Social Science Courses OR Holder of NCE are expected to have credit passes in WASC or credit or merit passes in TC II (acquired between 1967 and 1981) in English Language and four other matriculation subjects that are relevant.

(b) Candidates that are for the degree of M.Phil and PhD are expected to be admitted in the first instance to the Degree of Master Programme. However, all the candidates who, in addition to a good first degree, and are already holding acceptable postgraduate degrees, may stand a chance to be considered for direct admission to the

Phil and PhD. Programmes

UI Postgraduate Programmes – Types of Admission

(i) Full-Time Admission

All the full-time admission would be offered only to interested candidates that meets the postgraduate schools that they are not in employment, or that their employers have released them in other to undertake full-time studies. All the Candidates that have been found to have made a false declaration in this regard would be asked to withdraw themselves from the university.

(ii) Part-Time Admission

All the candidates may stand a chance to be admitted to a part-time registration if they are in the University’s academic staff or can meet all the postgraduate school that the facilities for their work as Part-time students are adequate. All the candidates applying for part-time registration may be asked to provide proof of evidence of release by their employers.

(iii) Admission as Occasional Students

Candidates that satisfy the minimum entry requirements for all the higher degree programme and are required by the Faculty of Postgraduate Committee may be admitted as occasional students, but would not be awarded a degree of the University of Ibadan. This type of admission is available to the open candidates that have registered for the higher degree of other universities that is recognized by the senate.

How to Apply

The request for the application forms into the higher degree programmes of the University is normally made every year. Student for the procedure for obtaining application form has been made available at www.pgschool.ui.edu.ng.

The Application forms cost N13,000 for academic programmes and N18,000 for all the professional programmes. All the applicants that are interested for the Masters and postgraduate diploma degree are required to make payment of an extra N3,000.00 for a test of proficiency in the English Language.

Guidelines for Filling Application Forms

(a) all the application forms are expected to be submitted on-line. Applicants are required to approach any of the banks stated on the invoice. Students are to Note that the E-channels are made available at GTB and Skye Bank PLC.

(b) Incomplete information from an applicant would lead to delay or halt of action on such application.

(c) all the applicants would be required to basically one department or programme.

(d) Applicants are required to upload their all the relevant credentials and then proceed to submit their application electronically.

(e) Acknowledgement Application
All the applicants would be required to be informed electronically (through the email address provided in the electronically filled application form) of the progress in processing their forms.

(f) Letters of Recommendation
All the Postgraduate School, University of Ibadan, basically requires three letters of recommendation form the faculty members or others well acquainted with the students’ academic work, please take note that the referee forms have been made available online, to be completed and submitted electronically.

(g) transcripts/certificates

The official transcripts of all the available degree completed are expected to be mailed directly to the postgraduate school. If the Registrar of an applicant’s university would provide an official copy directly to the school, applicants are expected to be enclosed along with the application of an unofficial or student’s copy of the transcript for the temporary reference. In other to prevent delays, applicants are expected to make an adequate arrangement using their registrars to provide transcripts before the deadline that have been stated.
