The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) was set up by the federal government of Nigeria in the year 1977. The JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) examination is not compulsory for Specialised Institutions. Students need at least five credits in (West African Examination Council) or NECO (National Examination Council). The normal age requirement for most of these schools is sixteen.
