Program Details
Each year, the Shakira Choonara Young African Scholarship Award is given to a deserving student in their final year of study. Whether you’re completing an undergraduate degree or advancing through postgraduate studies (Honors, Masters, PhD), this scholarship is here to help you cross the finish line.
The scholarship is focused on supporting students who have consistently performed well academically, achieving at least 70% in their studies so far. We’re particularly interested in students pursuing degrees that contribute to Africa’s development, with a special emphasis on health sciences and gender studies.
This scholarship covers all tuition fees for your final year of study, giving you the financial freedom to focus on your education and future.
Eligibility
To be considered for this life-changing scholarship, you need to:
- Be between 21 and 35 years old.
- Be a citizen of one of Africa’s 54 nations.
- Be in your final year of study at an African university, either as an undergraduate or postgraduate student.
- Show financial need—this scholarship is for students who truly need it to finish their degree.
- Have a strong academic record, with at least 70% in your current and previous years of study.
- Be studying in a field that contributes to broader development, with a preference for health sciences and gender studies.
