Full Information About the Punocracy Prize for Satire 2020

The Punocracy is a community of young satire writers in Nigerian and has been existing since the year 2018, the motive is to promote free speech, promote critical thinking and spread political consciousness in the country through writing. In this year the writers would be able to win cash prizes up to 200,000. First place (Literature): N70,000, books, and certificate, First place (Visual art): N50,000, books, and certificate, Second place (Literature): N50,000, books, and certificate, Third place (Literature): N30,000, books, and certificate.

This year we are also introducing a complemental prize for entries in satirical visual art/political cartooning to be judged separately writers should know that their article or artwork can be used by Punocracy and may be published in the public domain via electronic or printed media. The 2020 edition is sponsored by the  Goethe-Institut, a non-profit German cultural association that encourages international cultural exchange and relations, under its Support and Connect program.

Eligibility Requirements for the Competition

The requirements for the Punocracy prize for satire for the year 2020 are that they must be Nigerians that are the most important requirements for the application for this competition, once applicants aren’t indigenes they are automatically disqualified. These are some of the major requirements for the Punocracy prize for satire 2020.

  • This is one of the major requirements it must Be written in English and saved in a .doc format (for articles) and .pdf (for cartoons).so that they can easily access the document and it must  Be anything between 300 and 1500 words (for articles) so that it can be easily read by judges.
  • It must Not be plagiarized in part or in whole, original works are advised for this competition and it also must not be jointly authored or created and not have been previously published.

The Punocracy prize for satire must be satirical work, applicants can apply with different types of literary works but they must include satire. If they don’t have satire in them then it beats the point of the whole write up, the application for this competition is open and it expires Sunday, July 19th 2020.

To be able to apply for this competition Applicants should be Nigerians aged between 15 and 30 years as of July 19, 2020, this competition is only allowed for Nigerian citizens so if individuals from other countries apply their application would be the default .
