The Empirical Studies of Conflict Project (ESOC) at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering (ORFE) at Princeton University are looking for candidates for a two-year postdoctoral research associate position in Development Finance to commence on or about 1st of September, 2020.
About the Princeton University Postdoctoral Research Associate in Development Finance
The appointment of the Postdoctoral Research Associate in Development Finance will be through the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. In addition to pursuing their own independent or personal research, the Postdoctoral Research Associate is required to play a key role in supporting the recently established Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies Research Community on Development Finance in fragile and conflict-affected states.

Objectives
The priority objective of the Princeton University Postdoctoral Research Associate in Development Finance will be to collaborate with ORFE to work on a structure of risk measures necessary for assessing decisions to mobilize finance in fragile states. Essential technical questions are to develop a framework of risk measures appropriate for assessing threats and to utilize the advantage provided by modern machine learning tools to harness the information in large visual, verbal, and numerical localized data which are now available.
The second objective will require the Princeton University Postdoctoral Research Associate in Development Finance to work with ESOC in the development of a publicly available development finance dataset on development finance in fragile states. It should be noted that the position provides an outstanding opportunity for collaboration with Princeton University faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to that, there are no teaching obligations required of the Postdoctoral Research Associate.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be considered for the Princeton University Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Development Finance, certain eligibility criteria are required of the Applicants. These eligibility criteria are stated as follows:
- Applicants must have received a Ph.D., received or expected between September 2017 and September 2020, in such fields as Operations Research, Economics, or Data Science.
- Postdoctoral Research Associates are required to actively participate in the intellectual activities of Princeton University. Note that this is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal which is dependent on satisfactory performance and funding.
