About Mindful African Initiative Compassionate Integrity Training

The COVID 19 pandemic has brought about a lot of disruption to the educational system, significantly accelerating the change process and bring many inequalities to full view. Educators are now faced now more than ever, with an increasing need for skills such as critical thinking, resiliency and adaptability to contribute better to learning that requires compassion and collaboration at its core.

In collaboration with Life University and The Global Youth Alliance for Kindness, Mindful African Initiative is sponsoring a limited number of committed and passionate educators across Africa to participate in the Compassionate Integrity Training (CIT) programme to enable them to cultivate important skills that will help them develop greater resiliency and adapt adequately to the ever-transforming education system.

CIT is a multi-part training programme that promotes basic human values and skills with the aim of increasing individual, social, and environmental flourishing. The programme builds its focus on “Compassionate Integrity” and also builds on that. Compassionate Integrity is the ability to live one’s life in accordance with one’s value with a recognition of common humanity, a basic orientation to kindness, and reciprocity. This is achieved as a result of knowledge, understanding, and a set of concrete skills.

Programme components

CIT comprises of three series, each with a set of skills covered. Below are the components of the CIT programme:

⦁ Self-Cultivation: This includes calming Body and Mind, Ethical Mindfulness, Emotional Awareness, and also Self-Compassion.

⦁ Relating to Others: This skill includes Impartiality and Common Humanity, Forgiveness and Gratitude, Compassion, and Emphatic Concern.

⦁ Engaging in Systems: This includes Appreciating Interdependence and Engaging with Discernment.

The skills are developed from the previous skill with each series, starting with exploring the self, then moving on to focus on others, and finally transitioning to wider networks and systems that we are already part of and engage with.

Course Duration

The courses in the CIT programme comprises 10 skills that are completed via online/offline facilitated sessions, reflective writing, and contemplative journaling. it will take one 2-hour session to carry out 1 skill. The training course of the programme will run over 10 weeks, 1 skill will be facilitated every week. The training will take commence on Monday 28 of September 2020 at 11 am GMT and sessions will be held every Monday at the same time for all the sessions. It is important that you are aware that there are no assignments or tests in CIT.

Benefits

⦁ Participants will be awarded a Course Completion Certificate jointly by Mindful African Initiative and Life University, and the Center for Compassion, Integrity & Secular Ethics upon successful course completion.

Eligibility

The CIT programme is eligible for the following persons:

⦁ Passionate and committed educators in Africa.

⦁ Applicants who are willing to commit to participating in the entire duration of the programme.

Application

Interested applicants are advised to submit their applications before the deadline as applications after the deadline will be given no consideration. Applicants should be aware that the training programme will run from Monday, September 28, 2020, to Monday, November 30, 2020.
