In recent years, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has switched from the Pencil on paper Test (PPT) to the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode of conducting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). As such, candidates who are sitting for the UTME in these recent years have had to be conversant with the basics of operating a computer in order to answer the questions.

As this year’s JAMB Examinations is approaching, it is important that candidates are well prepared in not only reading and having full understanding bot their various subject combinations but also in practising the past questions via Computer Based Test (CBT) software on computers so that on the Examination day, the feel of using a computer to attempt questions will not be a new thing.

Perhaps as a candidate looking to gain admissions into a Tertiary Institution, you are not well versed with taking Examinations on a computer or you are not so confident in using keyboard or mouse (main navigation tools) and so on, first of all, do not worry as much because with a bit of Computer training you will be okay because it is as easy as looking at a computer screen and clicking. As for those candidates who have prior knowledge of computers, congratulations because that in itself reduces the Examination tension.

JAMB Computer Training Tips

This article is aimed at helping JAMB Examinations candidates get the basic Computer training knowledge and will be of benefits to them. However, we will first look at a couple of tips that you need to know before going to sit for the Examination. Below are the helpful tips you need to be conversant with prior to your UTME;

  • Ensure you fill in the necessary details and check all fields properly.
  • Make sure you read and follow the instructions carefully.
  • Plan How much time you will spend on each subject.
  • Ideally do not spend more than a minute on a question

Basic Training for Using the Mouse and Keyboard When Writing

  1. When holding the mouse ensure your index finger is on the left side key of the mouse as this is the key you use to click the options on the screen.
  2. Ensure you move the cursor (Arrowhead like) to the option you want to pick, it will switch to a hand with the index pointing upwards which enables you to select an answer.
  3. You can select the answers of your preferred option on the keyboard by clicking on the corresponding keys are if your option is A you can click on the key lettered “A” to input your answer. This is one of the fastest methods of the attempt the questions as it saves you the time of having to move your cursor around the screen.

Generally, to successfully answer questions on your Computer Based Test (CBT), you need to slide the mouse sideways, up or down on the surface to enable you to click on the area of the computer you will like to select. The whole process is hinged on training with a computer to answer JAMB Examinations questions and you are guaranteed less tension just like candidates who have prior knowledge of basic computer functions.
