With the intent to encourage new collaborative working system and innovative productions that includes the exchange of international culture, the Goethe-Institut International Coproduction started around 2016 summer to promote new working networks and approaches in a global setting and to explore more ways of intercultural collaborations.

The Goethe-Institut culture department is in charge of the administration of the international coproduction fund. The employees in the music, theatre, and dance departments screens and examines sent applications both on the applicant’s formal criteria and their compliance with the eligibility. After the application has ended, all accepted applications will be forwarded to an independent expert committee.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Goethe-Institut International Coproduction Fund 2021 you have to meet up with all criteria stated below.

  • All submitted projects should contain only performing arts and not outright film or exhibition projects.
  • The expected artistic quality of the project.
  • You must be relevant to the role of the respective scenes you submitted.
  • The budget should mention project partners’ contributions or funds from third parties and financial plans.
  • Project partnership on artistic must be balanced and not dominated by one partner.
  • Realization of at least a performance outside Germany and one in Germany if possible.
  • Projects between German and non-European partners are given preference. Applications form Switzerland and Austria are not considered.

Lastly, applications for guest performance will be considered as invalid.

How to Apply

The deadline for application of the Goethe-Institut International Coproduction Fund 2021 has expired but the next deadline will be on the 15th of October 2020. The online application form will be made available again by September.

Incomplete applications or late applications will neither be processed nor considered. Have in mind that after submitting the application online, a confirmation by email will be requested from the German co-producer. Only after this will your application be official and will then be considered and processed.

  • For projects that start in 2021, the deadline for application is on the 15th of October 2020 and on the 15th of April 2021.
  • For projects that start in 2022, the deadline for application is on the 15th of October 2021 and on the 15th of April 2022.
