Federal Government of Nigeria Declares Public Holidays for Christmas and New Year Celebrations

The declaration was made by the  Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola on behalf of the federal government in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib Belgore.

December 25th, 26th, and January 1st have been declared by the Federal Government as public holidays to commemorate the Christmas, Boxing, and New Year Celebrations respectively.

Aregbesola felicitated with all Christians and Nigerian both home and abroad and also enjoined all Christians to “emulate the life of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness that the birth and ministry of Jesus Christ signified, that will be the best way to know Christ and celebrate his birth.”

Peace and security as noted by the minister are critical factors that are needed to enable the government to accomplish its mission of revitalizing the economy, improving Foreign Direct Investment, and also generating employment opportunities for over 100 million Nigerian youths in the next 10 years.

Nigerians were advised by Aregbesola especially Christians to strictly adhere to COVID 19 protocols and guidelines as stipulated by the relevant authorities during and after the yuletide period especially since there is a second wave of COVID 19.
