The Curtain University in Australia calls out for application for a three year fully-funded PhD scholarship for a unique candidate to conduct research at the interface of Water chemistry and Microbiology in the school of molecular and Life sciences in the 2020/2021 session. The Curtin University PhD Scholarship in Water Chemistry and Microbiology 2020 focuses on generating a deep understanding about the survival mechanisms of microorganisms in chlorinated distribution systems as well as the chemical mechanisms that are involved in the interaction between bacteria and their metabolites with monochloramine.

About the Curtin University PhD Scholarship in Water Chemistry and Microbiology 2020

The PhD candidate of the Curtin University PhD Scholarship in Water Chemistry and Microbiology 2020 will be supervised by experts in water chemistry and treatment and Microbiology. The water chemistry and treatment will be supervised by Dr Sebastien Allard, Pr Cynthia Joll and Adjunct Professor Keith Cadee (Former General manager Water corporation) and the microbiology aspect by Emeritus Pr Jean-Claude Block (University of Lorraine, France) and Pr Elizabeth Watkin. The PhD candidate will also work together with other industrial partners (Water Corporation, Western Australia).

Value of the Scholarship Award

The successful candidate will get to receive a stipend of $35,000 annually and the duration of the award will be for three maximum possible extension of up to six months (assess on a case by case basis)

Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship

  • Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Environmental science, chemistry, microbiology or relevant field at high-level honours of academic achievement.
  • Applicants must display an aptitude for research through their analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Applicants must be able to work in a team setting and be responsible for their individual tasks.
  • Applicants must have experience in the use of digital technology and software packages
  • Applicants must have an excellent spoken and written communication skills that may be evidenced for example through their undergraduate thesis, project work or presentations given.
  • Applicants must practice well developed time-and self-management skills with strong personal discipline and drive in their work
  • Applicants can have experience in microbiology and water chemistry.
