About Conservation Leadership Program Conservationist Awards 2023

The Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP) is a training and capacity building programme that targets individuals from developing countries who are early in their conservation career and demonstrate leadership potential.

As a partnership initiative between BirdLife International, Fauna & Flora International and the Wildlife Conservation Society, CLP builds the leadership capabilities of early-career conservation professionals working in places with limited capacity to address high-priority conservation issues.

The partner organisations believe that the programme’s success can be attributed to the fact that it goes beyond grant giving, providing ongoing support and access to networks that help awardees gain skills and move up the conservation career ladder.

Program Details

Each worth $15,000, Future Conservationist Awards are granted to teams of early-career conservationists (i.e., team members have less than five years of professional conservation experience) who are conducting high-priority projects focused on protecting species listed as Data Deficient, Vulnerable, Endangered or Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.

Projects must take place in an eligible country, be led (or co-led) by a national of one of these countries, involve at least three people and last between three to 12 months.
