Entries are currently being received for the CAPPA Journalism Fellowship for Investigative Reporting on Trans Fat 2020. Supported by the Global Health Advocacy Incubator ( GHAI), the fellowship is a part of CAAPA’s efforts to build the capacity f the Nigerian media to report on trans fat. Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa welcomes the application of practicing journalists who have a knack for writing good reports.

About the 2020 CAPPA Journalism Fellowship

In line with the World Health Organisation’s recommended standards for countries to follow, the fellowship is focused on different ways to eliminate trans fat from Nigeria’s food supply from an informed perspective. Building and improving the public’s awareness of trans fat and world best practices regarding its use and other issues relating to it is also another aim of the fellowship.

Focus Areas

CAPPA is inviting journalists in Nigeria to send in story ideas focusing on the underlisted ideas for the purpose of the fellowship:

  • Industry players and food labeling
  • Trans fat content in food
  • Trans fat and well being
  • Distinguishing trans fat enhancing cardiovascular diseases and implications of the treatment of such in Nigeria

Benefits

Candidates who emerge successful during the fellowship will be eligible for a grant award of between US$700 – US$1,000 each to assist them in implementing their story ideas within a period of four weeks.

Eligibility Criteria

The fellowship expects interested applicants to meet with certain eligibility requirements in order to be considered. Written below are the eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be journalists in Nigeria.
  • The story the journalist will be presenting should be focused on one of the above-mentioned areas.

Selection Criteria

The entries submitted by the applicants will be reviewed by a team of senior and experienced journalists on the subject. The journalists will critic the entries and pick out the best six. Entries filed out using the application form provided by the fellowship will be the only ones the panel will entertain.

Application Deadline

Applicants are to submit their applications via the form provided on the CAAPA webpage on or before Friday, October 23rd, 2020 by 5pm, Nigeria local time. It should be noted that any application submitted after the stipulated deadline will be given no consideration. On October 20th, 2020, an announcement will be made revealing successful candidates.
