About British Ecological Society is Looking for a Blog Associate Editor for the Applied Ecologist
The Blog Associate Editor for the British Ecological Society is a voluntary position with the Blog Associate Editor for the Applied Ecologist doing his or her duties and responsibilities remotely from wherever they are based. The roles of the Blog Associate Editor has been anticipated to require an estimate of about eight hours per month. It should be noted that the successful applicant will get the same benefits as the other Associate Editor.
About The Applied Ecologist
The Applied Ecologist is a hugely successful blog, with approximately 80,000 page views per year being received. Having commenced in 2014 as the official blog of the Journal of Applied Ecology, the blog has grown even bigger earlier this year to include Applied Ecology Resources which is a new initiative to better connect applied ecology research and practice with the associated journal Ecological Solutions and Evidence.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Blog Associate Editor
The British Ecological Society Blog Associate Editor for the Applied Ecologist will be responsible for:
- Making initial assessments of the suitability of manuscripts Making recommendations to the Senior Editor on the basis of reviews received and your own professional opinion Picking appropriate peer reviewers
- Assisting the editorial team to identify papers for further promotion via podcasting, video and the media
- Contributing to initiatives such as journal-specific and cross-journal Virtual Issues as well as Special feature
- Acting as an ambassador for the journal at conferences and participating in the journal through social media and blogs, as necessary
Associate Editors of the British Ecological Society typically handle about 10 original submissions per year, however, this number ranges from 5 to 15, which is dependent on the subject area, AE capacity, numbers of submission received overall and absences agreed with the journal, with an expectation to handle papers in a timely manner.

Eligibility Criteria

- Excellent in writing English with clear and effective communication
- Great organizational skills and keen eyes for details
- Applicant should have the ability to work as an individual and collaboratively as a team
- Should have experience of contributing to science blog or similar.
