ASUU Calls Off/Suspends Nine Months Old Strike Conditionally and Congratulates Undergraduates | CHECK NOW

All students attending universities under the ASUU have agreed to call off their over Nine-month-old strike starting today on Wednesday, 23rd of December 2020. This announcement was made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the announcement during the briefing in Abuja, maintaining that the development followed by consultations with the National Executive Council (NEC).

About the ASUU Calls Off Nine Months Old Strike

ASUU President stated that the Academic Staff Union of Universities and Nigeria (Federal government) finally came to an agreement that led to the termination of the 10 months old strike.

Ogunyemi stated that the lecturers will not hesitate to return to strike without any notice if the government fails to maintain its own end of the bargain reached with the Union.

He also stated that owing to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, reopening schools lies with the federal and the state governments.

Recall that ASUU also went on industrial action that commenced March 2020 owing to disagreements with the federal government.
