The ANFASA grant scheme for the year 2020 is a South African grant scheme for that benefits authors of scholarly and of general non-fiction works. This grant scheme offers writers up to 30,00 Rand to write that very important academic or non-fiction work. This works Scholarly works are normally based on research and cover a wide range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences and arts.

ANFASA has, among other activities, held workshops on topics such as copyright and contracts and self-publishing; has run a course on biography writing; has organized conferences; has awarded writing grants to over a hundred authors; has advised many authors by e-mail on their publishing contracts, and has lobbied for copyright legislation favourable to authors.

About the ANFASA Grant Scheme 2020

ANFASA was formed as a national association especially for authors of general non-fiction works, textbooks and academic works, but it also welcomes authors of fictional works as members. Many non-fiction authors write fiction as well, and vice versa. Even more importantly, ANFASA’s programs, and its objectives, apply broadly to all authors.

ANFASA is dedicated to defending their intellectual property rights, to promoting their works and to sharing information and offering advice and expertise on writing and publishing. We call this empowering authors, and we are dedicated to this objective.

If you are currently working on a scholarly or general non-fiction work, you are eligible to apply. However, if selected, only ANFASA members may actually receive an award, so if you are not already a member you are urged to apply.

ANFASA Mission

  • To build a strong organization to support and respond to authors’ needs and interests and to enable their agency in directing their personal development as creative workers.
  • To inform authors of their intellectual property rights and ensure that they are properly remunerated for their work, and to maintain good relationships with rightsholder bodies and other sectoral stakeholders with the objective of advancing the growth of writing and reading society.
  • To make a contribution to South African culture, heritage, economic and human development through the growth of a literate society, and to encourage and support written communication in the arts, sciences and humanities.
  • To sponsor and encourage the writing and publication of new works especially those which tackle themes of striking relevance such as human rights, social and economic development and all aspects of the environments

Eligibility Requirements

This application is open to The AGSA scheme encourages young researchers, in particular, to communicate through the written word and to build their academic careers through the writing of scholarly monographs. Grants are reserved for books rather than articles, although a compilation of essays would be eligible. This is the main eligibility requirements for the ANFASA grant scheme for the year 2020.

  • The ANFASA grant scheme is open to all kinds of writers, as long as you are a writer you are eligible to apply for the grant. The ANFASA program ms is open to all authors this means that all authors from different parts of the world can apply for this grant scheme in the year 2020.

The ANFASA grant scheme especially encourages applications from young authors at the start of their careers.
